Swona
Swona, a small uninhabited Island in the Pentland Firth, is described as the "St Kilda" of Orkney

Swona is situated in the Pentland firth, just south of South Ronaldsay.
Access to the Island is by boat, and although there are no facilities or services available, it attracts visitors seeking adventure and tranquillity in nature.
Renowned for it's rugged terrain and abundant wildlife, Swona was once home to a farming and fishing community, although it is now deserted. The island serves as a sanctuary for seabirds and boasts breath-taking coastal views, making it a beautiful destination for nature lovers.
Like many of the Orkney Islands, Swona carries a cultural heritage tied to Norse and Scottish history, evident in local legends and tales.
Additionally, Orca Ventures has been actively supporting the Swona Heritage Group by bringing visitors to the island and supplying essential materials to help maintain it's buildings.
If you are interested in supporting the Swona Heritage Group, whether financially or through volunteer work, please feel free to reach out. We aim to preserve our "St Kilda" .
Participants on our Swona trips should have good mobility, as they may need to climb over rocks to access the island and walk long distances along the coastline. The island's stunning location and challenging environment add to its beauty, but they also present certain risks. Why not make a day out of it by brining a pack lunch, no better place to enjoy a picnic!
